Fighting For Each Other: A Christian Encouragement for Marriage
Marriage, as God designed it, is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman—meant to last a lifetime. It is more than a legal union or a romantic partnership. It is a living picture of Christ and the Church: full of love, sacrifice, grace, and unity.
In a world that often distorts or dismisses this truth, we find ourselves surrounded by voices telling us to give up when things get hard. Divorce is common. Division is normalized. Self comes first. But God calls us to something higher—something holy.
Marriage isn’t always easy. Two imperfect people becoming one is a lifelong process. But it's a beautiful one, worth every ounce of prayer, effort, and commitment.
When Scripture says “the two shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24), it touches every part of our lives. We become one in:
-
Finances – Stewarding money together with transparency and shared goals.
-
Intimacy – Cultivating a safe, loving, and joy-filled bond that honors each other.
-
Emotional connection – Listening, encouraging, and walking with one another through every season.
-
Work and calling – Supporting each other’s gifts, dreams, and daily responsibilities.
-
Parenting – Leading, loving, and nurturing your children in unity and shared values.
Marriage isn’t about perfection—it’s about partnership. And when conflict comes (because it will), remember this: your spouse is not your enemy. You have a common enemy, and he would love nothing more than to tear your marriage apart. But with Christ at the center, you can fight for each other, not against each other.
If you’re in a hard season right now, don’t lose heart. Pray together. Forgive freely. Communicate honestly. Laugh often. And return, again and again, to the One who brought you together. He is able to restore what’s broken and strengthen what feels weak.
Marriage is a lifelong journey of two becoming one—and it is worth the fight. Not just for your sake, but for the glory of God and the legacy you're building.
