When a Voice Is Silenced: Mourning, Faith, and Eternal Hope
This morning (HST), I received the heartbreaking news that Charlie Kirk had been shot. Tragically, I was sent footage of the shooting. I do not recommend looking it up—I was not prepared for what I saw, and the video was deeply disturbing.
Immediately, I began to pray with my children. I was glued to my phone, waiting for updated information, until I saw the devastating news that Charlie Kirk had died. Filled with grief and a flood of thoughts, I want to share a few things with you.
When we hear news like this—especially about someone who impacted so many—it shakes us, not just as individuals, but as a community and a nation. Whether you agreed with Charlie or not, violence is never the answer to disagreement.
Charlie Kirk was a shining example of how to engage in civil discourse with those who hold opposing views. He once famously said:
“If you believe in something, you need to have the courage to fight for those ideas—not run away from them or try and silence them.”
Sadly, the one who silenced Charlie did not share this conviction.
As Christians, our hope is in Christ—and thankfully, Charlie’s faith was clearly in Christ too. He was outspoken and unapologetic about his relationship with Jesus. Here are just a few of his quotes:
-
“Jesus saved my life. I'm a sinner. Gave my life to Christ. Most important decision I ever made.”
-
“I worship a God that defeats evil, and we worship a God that wins in the end.”
-
“The most important decision you'll ever make!” — referring to giving your life to Christ.
Because of this, we can have confidence that Charlie is now in the presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
“We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:8 (NKJV)
“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 (NKJV)
So for now, we mourn. But those of us who are in Christ do not mourn without hope.
“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (NKJV)
We look forward to the day when we will be reunited with our Savior—and with our loved ones in Christ. A day when:
“God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain...” – Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)
“Not My will, but Yours, be done.” – Luke 22:42 (NKJV)
I pray that Charlie’s life—and now his death—would be used by God for His greater purpose. That the Church would awaken and repent. That those who are perishing without hope would turn to Christ. That through the faithful witness of one man, many would be saved.
“But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.” – Genesis 50:20 (NKJV)
If you are not in Christ, I urge you: Turn from your sins. Turn to Jesus. He is the only hope in a broken world. I pray that what the enemy meant for evil, God would use for good—bringing life out of death and light out of darkness.
“For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:13 (NKJV)
Please continue to pray. Pray especially for Charlie’s family—his wife, his children, and all who loved him deeply. Pray for those mourning across the nation. Pray for the Church to awaken, for the lost to be saved, and for God’s will to be accomplished in the midst of this tragedy.
I’d like to share this video with you. And I pray that you will not delay another moment—give your life to Christ today.
